The New York Times on Mark Driscoll

At Reform & Revive, I try to offer only original content, but this was something I couldn’t pass up.  A friend and fellow “Westminsterian”, Art Boulet, put a post up on his blog a few days ago containing an article about Mark Driscoll that appeared in the New York Times.  I found both the article and the discussion that followed in the comments section fascinating.

Here’s Art’s blog and the article

The article gives a surprisingly fair assessment of the Reformed Theology and style of both Driscoll and those of us that find ourselves ascribing to Reformed doctrine while still in our twenties – the “New Calvinists” as they say.  I also enjoyed the analysis of the current Evangelical culture that these “New Calvinists” are reacting against.  I thought the article sort of brokedown though, and the author’s bias showed through, during the discussion of Dricoll’s views of Church government.  It portrayed him as a sort of dictator wanting mindless followers in his congregation and eldership, while not tolerating dissent or criticism of any kind.

My dad taught me you can always tell a journalists’ ultimate bias or true opinion on a topic simply by reading the last sentence or paragraph of any article.  This is certainly the case in this article, and its kind of blatant.  Enjoy.
